Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Vice President – Convention Sales is to lead the Sales Management Team and the Directors - Business Development, enabling them to generate leads and develop business. All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Achieves and exceeds Financial Quotas set by Executive Management.
  • Partners with the Senior Vice President – Sales and Leisure to establish annual and quarterly Team and individuals quotas.
  • Collaborates with the Senior Vice President - Sales and Leisure to develop and oversee the implementation of convention sales, marketing strategies and tactical plans that align with short term and long term objectives.
  • Works with the Senior Vice President – Sales and Leisure to create and manage the annual budget by ensuring all costs remain within the established parameters.  Attends monthly Profit & Loss Meetings and annual Budget Meetings.
  • Manages the implementation of training and messaging around the fundamentals of company selling and coaching philosophies.
  • Maintains accountability of team leadership to meet and sustain the performance targets of the business.
  • Establishes, reports and maintains accurate group forecasts, booking pace, business plans, quarterly action plans, comp tracking, travel schedules, sales activities and group expense budgets.
  • Understands the overall market competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand and how to coach team to sell against them. 
  • Manages responsibilities for the department to include: hiring of new Team Members, promotions, creating a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, discipline, recognition, and termination. 
  • Communicates and articulates ideas that are innovative and supported by reliable data.
  • Reviews and approve contractual terms of group business to ensure financial goals and objectives are met.
  • Partners with marketing to ensure execution of convention marketing strategies, plans and tactics.
  • Maintains and holds accountable defined sales roles and responsibilities, standards, policies, procedures processes and customer service levels.
  • Establishes and maintains consistent communication methods and professional relations with Team Members that fosters accountability and growth.
  • Creates, sustains and oversees the group on-boarding process to ensure the business is ready to go to market in a timely manner.
  • Identifies and implements cross functional ways of working to ensure more effective and efficient ways to do business.
  • Accompanies Team Members during site visits of hotel for major clients as necessary.
  • Entertains client groups of Hotel.
  • Travels as needed: domestic and international.
  • Participates in hotel projects to support revenue growth opportunities.
  • Handles ad-hoc queries/requests from various departments and territories on a daily basis.
  • Manages the day-to-day administrative needs of sales management roles.
  • Manages and reports sales revenue growth and KPI’s.
  • Executes sales initiatives by leveraging talent and company resources.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Alcohol Awareness (TAM) card and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 
  • 10 years of sales and marketing experience at a luxury property.
  • 5 years of hotel sales management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully meeting and exceeding sales quotas.
