Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Manager – Safety is to manage, monitor and implement the workplace safety investigation program for the Company.  The position will also be responsible for tracking, logging, and investigating workplace incidents, injuries, illnesses, and accidents and will provide periodic reporting regarding safety incidents and trends for the Company’s Las Vegas property.  The position will also manage and supervise Safety Specialists who serve as departmental liaisons regarding workplace safety.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conducts accident-injury investigations involving Team Members and provides detailed reports and recommendations.  Oversees accident investigation policies and processes for the Company. Coordinates and collaborates with other departments regarding accident and hazard investigation findings.
  • Develops, implements, and oversees the Company-wide Self-Inspection Program.
  • Creates periodic reports regarding safety incidents, injuries, illnesses, and accidents and provides trend analysis and metrics reporting.
  • Manages and directs the work of Safety department Team Members, including hiring, disciplinary decisions, performance tracking and day-to-day oversight. 
  • Completes all periodic agency reports (300A Logs, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Hazcom Certification and Reporting, departmental survey requests, etc.).
  • Manages evacuation map vendor and coordinates map requests with departments.
  • Oversees all Safety audits and annual safety-related inventory programs (equipment, self-inspection audits, chemical inventory, etc.).
  • Oversees Safety Training Compliance and serves as point-of-contact for departmental questions regarding Team Member Safety Training. Monitors departmental and Team Member compliance with safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Meets, confers and advises departments on safety-related topics; tracks efficacy of Company and departmental safety programs and provides targeted recommendations.
  • Conducts announced and unannounced safety inspections in business departments.  Creates inspection log and provides written follow-up to departmental leaders regarding all inspections.  Creates, updates, and publishes monthly and quarterly safety reports based on inspection results, accident rates, and accident and hazard investigations.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

All The Venetian Resort Team Members are expected to conduct and carry themselves in a professional manner at all times. Team Members are required to observe the Company’s standards, work requirements and rules of conduct.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Safety-related certification preferred.
  • A minimum of five to seven years progressively responsible experience conducting workplace investigations.  Prior workplace safety background preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience:
    • Conducting workplace investigations and/or root cause accident investigations.
    • Implementing and monitoring compliance of a self-inspection or departmental audit or tracking programs.
    • Interviewing Team Members and documenting interviews.
    • Creating workplace reports and documentation, including investigation summaries or reports.
    • Implementing employee programs, including the development or implementation of policies, SOPs, and recommendations.
    • Analyzing data or statistic information to evaluate trends and make recommendations to business departments.
  • Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of:
    • OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations.
    • Current safety-related trends, developments, training, and interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Strong writing skills with ability to create clear, concise, and meaningful documentation.  Writing sample may be requested at interview.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Lift or carry 25-50 pounds in the performance of duties.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability, for prolonged periods and with much frequency, to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Touch and handle supplies in a safe and non-hazardous manner, maintaining proper safety, hygiene, cleanliness, and disposal methods.
  • Use and demonstrate use of proper personal protective equipment and other safety-related equipment or instruments.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
