Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Manager – Safety is to manage, monitor and implement the workplace safety investigation program for the Company. 

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures.  This is a safety–related position.           

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Track, log, and investigate workplace incidents, injuries, illnesses, and accidents and provide periodic reporting regarding safety incidents and trends for the Company’s Las Vegas property.
  • Manage and supervise Safety Specialists who serve as departmental liaisons regarding workplace safety.
  • Conduct accident-injury investigations involving Team Members and provide detailed reports and recommendations.  Oversee accident investigation policies and processes for the Company. Coordinate and collaborate with other departments regarding accident and hazard investigation findings.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the Company-wide Self-Inspection Program.
  • Create periodic reports regarding safety incidents, injuries, illnesses, and accidents and provide trend analysis and metrics reporting.
  • Manage and direct the work of Safety department Team Members, including hiring, disciplinary decisions, performance tracking and day-to-day oversight. 
  • Complete all periodic agency reports (300A Logs, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Hazcom Certification and Reporting, departmental survey requests, etc.).
  • Manage evacuation map vendor and coordinate map requests with departments.
  • Oversee all Safety audits and annual safety-related inventory programs (equipment, self-inspection audits, chemical inventory, etc.).

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Safety Training Compliance and serve as point-of-contact for departmental questions regarding Team Member Safety Training. Monitor departmental and Team Member compliance with safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Meet, confer, and advise departments on safety-related topics; track efficacy of Company and departmental safety programs and provide targeted recommendations.
  • Conduct announced and unannounced safety inspections in business departments.  Create inspection log and provide written follow-up to departmental leaders regarding all inspections.  Create, update, and publish monthly and quarterly safety reports based on inspection results, accident rates, and accident and hazard investigations.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High school diploma.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Alcohol Awareness card, Nevada Gaming Control Board registration, Nevada State Driver’s License and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 
  • Safety-related certification preferred.
  • 5 years of experience conducting workplace investigations.
  • Prior workplace safety background preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting workplace investigations and/or root cause accident investigations.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and monitoring compliance of a self-inspection or departmental audit or tracking programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in interviewing Team Members and documenting interviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating workplace reports and documentation, including investigation summaries or reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing employee programs, including the development or implementation of policies, SOPs, and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience in analyzing data or statistic information to evaluate trends and make recommendations to business departments.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of: OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations, as well as current safety-related trends, developments, training, and interventions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in spoken and written form.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Lift or carry 25 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
