Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Controller – Operations is to provide day-to-day oversight, review, and direction for all gaming, non-gaming audits and ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory and The Venetian Resort’s departmental standard operating procedure requirements.

All duties are to be performed in accordance with departmental and The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices, and procedures. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participates in planning, risk assessment, fieldwork and reporting on multiple projects of considerable scope and complexity.
  • Manages all Operational Accounting Team Members, including the Operational Accounting Managers and Supervisors.
  • Oversees and manages compliance of the regulatory requirements of the state, county and federal government as well as The Venetian Resort’s policies, practices and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with the property internal control standards, established Minimum Internal Control Standards, regulations and statutes established by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
  • Leads, participates, and monitors work assignments and financial output to ensure timely completion and conducts thorough reviews of work papers and report drafts to ensure accuracy prior to submission to management.
  • Oversees all month-end, quarter-end, and annual compliance requirements of the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), Clark County, State of Nevada and Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX).
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the system of internal controls in accordance with all regulations. Monitors gaming regulations and laws to assess the impact on the organization.
  • Ensures credibility of month-end financial statements by providing timely and accurate analysis of actual monthly results, budgets, financial trends and forecasts.
  • Able to present the various accounting reports to the Controller and top management making suitable observations and recommendations.
  • Provides day-to-day oversight, review and direction for all gaming and non-gaming audits and ensures quality output.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures proper preparation and review of all responses to information document requests and proposed audit findings.
  • Ensures that standards, protocols and policies are communicated and executed effectively.
  • Identifies key technical and operational risk issues and ensures that there are enough controls in place to minimize negative occurrences.
  • Ensures timely, accurate completion of all assigned Blackline tasks.
  • Analyzes balance sheet fluctuations, review profit & loss statements and provide pertinent information to upper management.
  • Ensures adequate coverage of the daily gaming and non-gaming audits.
  • Oversees the timely, accurate and complete reconciliation of the balance sheet accounts that pertain to gaming and non-gaming audits.
  • Oversees the finance team members audit plan and schedules. 
  • Track time & attendance per Company policy.
  • Oversees timely and accurate management reporting of sales tax, room tax, NGCB taxes, Clark County taxes, IRS taxes and other taxes as assigned.
  • Ensures training and cross-training is maximized to provide for efficiencies in audits and maximizes the efficiency of labor usage.
  • Updates and monitors audit/project budgets and related costs.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures financial output including reports to management are accurate and timely in accordance with GAAP and LVSC’s accounting policies.
  • Identifies and recommends opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness of operations while maintaining adequate controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Develops and manages SIM goals.
  • Manages responsibilities for the department to include hiring of new Team Members, promotions, creating a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, discipline, recognition, and termination. 
  • Assists in overseeing and managing the Drop/Count Team Members.
  • Safety is an essential function of this job.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age.
  • Proof of authorization/eligibility to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelors’ degree, preferably in accounting or business or equivalent work experience in a finance, accounting or auditing position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Nevada Control Board Gaming registration and any other certification or license, as required by law or policy. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3 years of combined finance, accounting, audit or casino supervisory/management experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (i.e. pivot tables, data tables, VLOOKP, financial formulas, etc.) preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organized, and task oriented.
  • Exhibits outstanding leadership, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • High ethical standards, level of commitment and ability to cope with complexity and change.
  • Knowledge of auditing standards, principles and techniques.
  • Ability to manage the collection, compilation, analysis and collection of data.
  • Ability to gain cooperation and confidence of audit customers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with guests and other Team Members of different backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to:

  • Lift or carry 20 pounds, unassisted, in the performance of specific tasks, as assigned.
  • Physically access all areas of the property and drive areas with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Maintain composure under pressure and consistently meet deadlines with internal and external customers and contacts.
  • Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with guests, management, other team members, and outside contacts.
  • Ability for prolonged periods of time to walk, stand, stretch, bend and kneel.
  • Work in a fast-paced and busy environment.
  • Work indoors and be exposed to various environmental factors such as, but not limited to, CRT, noise, dust, and cigarette smoke.
